Abstract

In traditional fabrication of scoliosis orthosis overcome disadvantage, measured body contour by using portable three-dimensional (3D) scanner. In base of scanning date, introduced three-dimensional (3D) modeling (CAD) and three-dimensional (3D) milling for fabrication of the scoliosis orthosis. The clinical practice of the orthotic treatment for scoliosis was reviewed by the current research team and some drawbacks were identified in the conventional manufacture of the spinal orthoses such as time consuming cast rectification, high plaster consumption, relatively low accuracy and no data storage for future reference. Apparently, an introduction of a CAD/CAM system in spinal orthotics could benefit not only in time saving but also in standardizing the fabrication process, improving accuracy and allowing prosthetics and orthotics professionals to spend more time on the patient interface such as education, training and counselling.
